Why You Need A Video Editor

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, which isn’t very likely since you’re online and reading this article, you must already know the importance of video content on the internet.

The biggest and most important platform for video content is undisputedly Youtube. Facebook, Instagram & TikTok have also come a long way, especially TikTok. But in terms of diversity of application, no platform has come close to YouTube, not yet. YouTube, in effect, is the new television.

Thousands of hours’ worth of content is posted on YouTube every hour. It’s natural that there would be a lot of talented people posting really gorgeous-looking and incredibly engaging content. But here’s something that you should know: almost none of them edits their own content. They all have someone who does their editing for them, and they’re all the better for it.

Let me give you a few reasons why that’s the case!

Time

We have all heard the expression: Time is Money.

Well, since YouTube has become a legitimate career choice for a lot of us, this expression has never felt more at home.

It’s like this:

If you’re writing, producing, and on top of that, editing everything yourself, you’re obviously spending a lot of time putting each video out. We just said: Time is Money, so if you’re spending a lot of time, in effect you’re spending a lot of money.

Here’s the nuance: You can get money back, but you can’t get time back. What’s more valuable? While you should always keep almost full control of your content, you can always save a lot of time by handing off your editing to someone who can potentially do a better job than you. Total win-win, no?

Better Results

What sort of content do you think performs better? A barely held-together video (which might even have taken the creator a week or even two just to shoot) or an engaging, cohesive video that tells a complete story?

Obviously, it’s the latter one.

A creator’s job is to create content. There’s nothing shameful in their inability to edit their content in a way that performs on YouTube and is loved by an audience.

Editing is an editor’s job. It’s even in the job title, right there!

What you need to do as a content creator is to find an editor for your channel and let them do their job. They’ll do it better than you, which means people will like it, which means it will get more engagement, and that would lead to YouTube pushing it even more. And since you’re editor will be taking care of post-production, you’ll be free to create more and better content.

Focus

Since you now have someone who is taking care of everything that, to be honest, you should never have had to take care of, you’re free to do a lot of other stuff. While they’re focusing on creating great-looking edits of your videos that will help with views and engagement, you can focus on creating more videos, which will help in retaining and ideally growing those numbers.

Not only that, with focus, you can write better scripts, brainstorm better ideas, and research a bit better for your videos because you’ll have more time and fewer tasks to perform. All of this will add up to great content, in fact, something you probably never could achieve if you were to do it all on your own. Pretty neat, huh?

Conclusion

There’s no downside to hiring a competent and talented editor for your channel. The mental peace alone is worth every penny. Most YouTubers will tell you that finding a great editor is perhaps the best thing you can do for yourself and your channel.

Now, the question isn’t whether you should hire an editor. The question is who to hire?
