Things YouTubers Shouldn’t Do!

caution

There’s a lot of advice about what YouTubers should do and how to do it.

Well, I’m here to tell you the things that are probably holding your channel back. The best thing is, they’re very easy to avoid, all it is going to require is your willingness and commitment.

You must have a YouTuber or a channel you follow that probably inspired you to start your own channel. First of all, let me congratulate you on making this difficult decision! Now, coming to the point: have you noticed that they have a certain way of doing almost everything? If not, don’t worry, we’ll discuss these things shortly.

Before I go on, one thing you must know:

Your channel should feel like a person. It should be unique and have its own personality, attitude, and opinions. Why? That’s what makes it relatable to an audience. For that, you must do a few things that might not feel person-like, yet they must be done for the sake of your channel’s growth.

Now onto the *Don’ts*

Not following a schedule

Easily the most common reason why a lot of channels fail, and that too in the early stages. They upload videos whenever they feel like it or whenever they have made something. That might work if their content is short form and they’re uploading multiple videos in a week. But in the long run (that’s what we’re striving for) this is not very sustainable and thus leads to failure.

To make it easier and for the sake of consistency, you should develop a schedule and work towards following it. If you ever feel like it’s getting a bit hard, you can do one of two things:

  • Dial it back a little
  • Hire talented people

Dialing would definitely make things easier but it won’t be very helpful because less content means fewer watch hours which doesn’t translate very well for YouTube’s algorithm.

Your only real option is to hire more and ideally talented people. They can edit for you while you focus on making more content. This is doing the opposite of dialing back, this obviously is very good for your channel. And that’s not all, you can even hire people to help you in making your content. All in all, this is probably your only real option!

Not sticking to a niche

Jack of all trades, master of none.

While at times it might seem like it’s a great thing, when it comes to establishing your name and making your channel known, you have to stick with one niche or a couple of closely related ones. Why? Well, if your audience is following you, they will be expecting a certain type of content from you. To them, it would seem weird if they came to your channel looking for tech reviews but instead found you discussing recipes.

So, even though you might have a lot of interests, you should stick to one niche.

But if you feel like you must explore more, it’s better to start a separate channel for that.

Not doing SEO

YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world.

What are people searching for on YouTube? Everything and anything.

This stands to reason that just like any website, you must do your channel’s SEO! If they can’t find you, will they watch you?

Not catering to your audience

A lot of YouTubers stop getting the views they once would get. Why? Because their audience would stick around for a certain type of content. It could be the format of the delivery, things YouTubers talked about, or anything else. Point is, when you stop making content that most resonates with your audience, you start losing views.

You have to cater to your audience, or they will stop being your audience!

Not doing a good job editing

I understand, it gets hectic and overwhelming. Having to write, shoot, reshoot, and on top of that having to edit and post while also having to shoot for your next project. Obviously, editing under such an intense situation would lead to bad edits. You’re tired and drained! It’s unfair and you shouldn’t have to do it.

As I said earlier, this is one of those situations where you should hire talented people to help you. If you feel like you’re in this space mentally, get in touch with us! I promise we’ll take care of you and help you any way we can!
